Arjun lost both parents in an accident when he was 7. He was living with a distant relative who couldn't afford to send him to school. When Heya Foundation found him, he hadn't been in a classroom in two years. Today, Arjun is one of the top students in his class. He loves mathematics and wants to become an engineer. He says the thing he is most proud of is that he can now read a full book by himself.
"I never thought I would go to school again. Now I don't want to miss a single day."

age 12 · MysuruThe girl who runs like the wind
Preethi came to our sports program shy and withdrawn. She had never run in a proper race before. Within three months, her coach noticed she had exceptional natural speed. Heya Foundation entered her in the district athletics meet — she came home with two medals. Her school, which had never noticed her before, now celebrates her. She trains every morning before school and dreams of representing Karnataka.

Kavya arrived at our shelter malnourished and frightened. She hadn't eaten a proper meal in days. The first thing she asked for was a book — not food. Within weeks of regular meals and care, her energy returned. She started school and her teacher told us she had never seen a child catch up so fast. Kavya now helps other children with their reading. She wants to be a teacher when she grows up.
"I want to teach children like me one day. So they know someone believes in them."
